The mineral is beryl, the same type as aquamarine and morganite, and its Japanese name is Suidama or Ryokutama. As it has many inclusions it is prone to chipping and requires careful handling. For this reason, a unique cut for emeralds called the emerald cut was created to round off the corners and make it less likely to chip. Emeralds are mined in Colombia and Africa, but the deep, beautiful emeralds from Colombia that are not black are particularly famous. Zambian emeralds are highly transparent, and are also beautiful and well-regarded. There are also "Oil-free"Emeralds are rare and command high prices.

After use, wipe it with a soft cloth. Store it separately from other jewelry and out of direct sunlight. Direct sunlight may cause fading.
To clean, fill a cup with lukewarm water and add a small amount of neutral detergent (dishwashing detergent). Then, dip a soft brush (a toothbrush with soft bristles) in the detergent and gently tap the jade to wash it. If you scrub the jade, it will get scratched or the nails that hold it in place will come loose, so it's important to wash it by tapping it. Once you're done washing, rinse the jade with lukewarm water.
Jade should not be ultrasonically cleaned, as ultrasonic vibrations can affect internal inclusions and surface irregularities, causing cracks.
